The paisley pattern dates as far back as the Sassanid Dynasty (200-650 AD) in Persia. Originally it was referred to as a boteh or buta (1), a Persian tear dropped shaped motif. It became popular again during the Safavid Dynasty (1501-1736) (2). During the time of the Qajar and Pahlavi Dynasty (1785 to 1925) the pattern was used for textile designs in royal and court garments, as well in the wardrobes of commoners (3). Historians believe the design was inspired by the pond frond; therefore it has been believed to be a symbol of fertility and celebration.
It was later, in the West called the Paisley, after a town in Renfrewshire, Scotland; where the textile mills manufactured lots of textiles with the design (4). From the time of 1800 to 1850 there were large quantities of paisley shawls produced there. European mills at the time still could not produce shawls with more than 15 colors, even at 1860. Soldiers who had been to the East often brought back Kashmir shawls which had far more multicolored facets. (5) The designs were first made on hand looms, then later on Jacquard looms (6). It is said that the design was also popular in Scotland on jewelry. During the 1900’s the design was produced on cotton; which began the popular bandana’s we know of today .
Eventually the pattern evolved and became larger with floral bouquets spreading in its design. In 1968 when the Beatles went to India; the paisley became very popular and was associated with psychedelic style and Indian spirituality . Baby carriages and everyday items were covered with the print during this time.
Paisley has gone in and out through the years. If you like classics it is considered a classic. I know in all the years since I made my paisley skirt in 1979, every time I wear it I still get compliments. When I worked at Liberty of London we sold thousands of paisley ties, handkerchiefs and blouses, as well as household items with paisley fabric on them. I have always enjoyed seeing paisley patterns; perhaps since I remember how lovely my mother looked in them when I was a child. The retro pictures in this post are of my mother and my brother and I. They were taken during a trip to Galway, Ireland in 1968. I made the paisley skirt in the picture of me with the hat. The other paisley skirt is from the late eighties when I worked for Liberty of London up in Rockefeller Center, NY. My African print dress I bought at the Boulder, Colorado coop in 1994. I have taken really good care of it and recently when African dresses came back in style several people commented that they thought it was new.

No I don’t actually. Under my site stats it doesn’t say I have focus keywords ether. It also estimates I have less comments and viewers then I think I actually have according to all the comments I am getting. So I am not sure the Jetpack is 100% accurate. I have the same difficulty sometimes. Mostly I try to get to a spot where things are cleared out of people and stacks of paperwork, etc.. and clear my mind. Take a cup of tea or coffee and just sit. The writing does seem to flow better without being at the computer. Some additions happen at the computer however the most gets written away from it. The main thing for me to be calm and centered. If I don’t feel centered to start out with I either exercise or listen to some music first. I hope that helps.

Hm… I am relatively new myself. Just try to keep it original and be unique. I have fallen a bit behind here the last couple of weeks but generally it is a good idea to have some plans for posts and keep at it. I think warmer weather will bring more out door inspiration. HI. I also use wordpress and I am not super technical. Youtube videos help with the technical things, as well as looking up Court Tuttle and using his free videos to get started. It takes a lot of work to get it going and loading pictures and taking them ,etc… it is fun though. It really is hard work though.

I don’t know about that. I have heard it is good to back up your blog. Some videos have instructions. I also know Court Tuttle told me if anyone writes comments with URL’s do not post their URL’s as that creates spam interference on your blog. You can change and edit their comment above where their name is etc… if you want to keep it. Check out Court Tuttle’s free videos, he is very helpful.

Hi. First I try to clear my desk and make it easier to focus. I get a nice cup of tea or decaf coffee then I start writing. If it doesn’t flow then I turn on some music and go do something else for about 15 minutes. I make sure I play music that seems to inspire my creative side. Usually after that 15 minutes I feel more relaxed and inspired and it will flow out. Sometimes I have to stop due to my schedule but I try to go back soon as I can and carry on. Good luck!! Yes, I use word press. I would suggest watching Court Tuttle’s free videos- plus word press and youtube are helpful. You don’t need code expertise. Just watch videos and follow what they say. Just take it step by step. Good luck!

Sometimes they need to change browsers. Also Court Tuttle has a website for free help setting up a blog, maintenance, etc… I wrote him and he told me to delete all URL’s from any comments. On occasion one or two spam comments sneak through Askismet, which helps catch spam. Get Askismet if you don’t have the plug in yet. Or at least it holds it for you to approve, delete, or trash. If you approve a comment take their URL out as it can mess up your blog. What happens is the internet is loading your page and being drawn to their URL at the same time creating a mess. Hope that helps. If you are making a living from blogging you might want to join the group Court has with other techs which provides unlimited support for such issues, etc… Plus they help you by providing ways to make your site make more money. I am not there yet myself. This is still a hobby for me currently. I hope that helps.

That comes from feedburner. I didn’t even originally know people can get comment updates. You need to find a spot to unsubscribe. I don’t have control over that.
